FRAMINGHAM - Eugene J. Champagne, 45, of Framingham, died
unexpectedly Friday, March 1, 2002, at MetroWest Medical Center in
Framingham of cardiac arrest.
Born in Wilmington, Del., he was the son of the late Cathleen
(Cavanagh) and J.E. Champagne.
His family moved to Wellesley in 1968. He graduated from Wellesley High
School in 1974 as a member of the National Honor Society and with a class
rank of 40th out of 680 students. While at Wellesley High School he played
on the varsity football, hockey and baseball teams. While playing football
for Wellesley High School he was the starting fullback during his junior
and senior years. He was also a starter on the hockey and baseball teams
his last two years of high school.
After graduation from Wellesley High School he attended the College of
the Holy Cross in Worcester on a partial academic scholarship. He received
his BSEE from Northeastern University and for many years was a computer
engineer.
His family will remember him fondly with the following thoughts: "It's
the hardest fact one can't ignore, it's the kindest heart that beats no
more."
He is survived by a sister, Lloyd Stenquist and her husband Dana of
Hudson; and a brother, Stephen Champagne and his wife Gail of Wellesley.
He was also the uncle of Jake Stenquist, Derek Stenquist, Nicole Stenquist
and Emma Champagne.
At the request of his family there will be no funeral home visitations.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 6, at 9 a.m. in
Saint James the Great Church, 900 Worcester Road (Rte. 9), Wellesley.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Heart
Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
Arrangements are under the direction of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home
of Wayland.
