An Avery and Marsh Weekend

Saturday and Sunday, September 27 and 28, 1997, the nationally recognized team of Richard Avery and Donald Marsh will be Artists-in-Residence at ELPC. This weekend, sponsered by the Worship, Music and Arts Committee, will bring to ELPC two men who for more than 30 years have told the story of our faith through music that is "of the people". Avery and Marsh have been compared to the brothers Charles and John Wesley, who, in the 18th Century, taught the faith through sonf throughout England.

On Saturday, September 27, from 1 to 4 p.m. we will host a workshop for ELPC and the Pittsburgh Community called Lively Word, Lively Worship. Topics presented by Avery and Marsh will include bringing the Bible alive in preaching, music, story-telling, drama, dance, and ritual; worship experiences of diverse ethnic traditions. These two leaders -- a pastor and a musician -- have learned the unusual knack of relating the "Bach people" and the "Rock people" in faithfulness and joy to our Reformed tradition.

Hear them again on Sunday, September 28 at the 10:45 a.m. Sanctuary worship service where a musical event prepared on Saturday using our own people will be offered in worship. A very special lunch will be provided following our Sunday worship experience.

If you are a singer or an instrumentalist who would like to participate in the workshop on Saturday and in leading the worship on Sunday, please call Jeffrey Johnson or Richard Szeremany at 412-441-3800.
